FunCushion / Clothcreen
New Technology / Graduate Research
"Clothcreen" is a novel decorative method that can display light-emitting fine patterns on cloth of soft products. "FunCushion" is the next step of the Clothcreen. It combines the interactivity (user's input) with the Clothcreen's displaying method. This technology can enhance the aesthetics of furnitures and expand the ways of playing soft toys.
This is achieved by combining fluorescent printing and UV light; specifically, we inkjet-print the patterns on cloths with transparent ink and embed a UV light source inside the soft object.

When a user grasp or push a cushion block, a picture by florescent light appears.

FunCushion/Clothcreen can enhance the aesthetics of furnitures and expand the ways of playing soft toys by displaying fluorescent pictures on them in dark living space.

This technology is also able to augments everyday soft commodities to Organic User Interfaces (OUI) with fluorescent-pattern icon displays.

FunCushion/Clothcreen augments users' handicrafts. Users can design light-emitting decoration patterns and create cloth-made toys and everyday items.
System Details
1. Clothcreen
UV-LED + fluorescent ink + cloth + soft diffuser
The system consists mainly of a UV-LED, a soft diffuser (cotton), fluorescent inks and cloth.
Printed patterns can interactively glow due to UV light.
2. FunCushion
Clothcreen + IR light sensing
FunCushion integrates the sensing system using IR light and detect user's push by receiving reflected IR light and measuring the density.
